Customers want to see how the parts they buy are put to use, which is what makes Reid’s JKU the perfect sales tool. Built to be a daily driver, all the parts and accessories were meticulously chosen to handle the everyday wear and tear on the Jeep, something that hits close to home to Reid. “I never wanted to build something I couldn’t use,” he says, adding that all his previous builds followed suit.
But Reid didn’t just want to show and sell customers parts, he also had his own agenda in mind.
“I wanted to stand out in a genre of vehicles that tend to be built a certain way that are similar to each other, so I wanted my own spin on what a Jeep could be.”
To get the Jeep he wanted, Reid enlisted the help of Max Brill, owner of Maxxed Performance, and the two brainstormed about how to outdo other builds, while still being faithful to their unique style (“I don’t know how to describe it; we’ve just always done things a bit different,” he confesses.)
To give it maximum height, Reid went with a 6”-12” one-off adjustable Air Ride lift with parts from BDS Suspension and Ekstensive Metalworks, as well as Fox Racing Shocks for a better daily ride. He chose a set of 24x14 Forgiato Esporre-T in a custom two-tone finish and wrapped in 40X15.50R24 Nitto Trail Grapplers. He then decided to fit VKS front and rear bumpers with Poison Spyder Crusher flares and inner fenders. A Rugged Ridge Spartan grille with one-off projector headlights built by Reid gives it a mean demeanor when you see it up close, while JW Speaker taillights are out back, which he custom painted. All suspension parts, bumpers and fenders were powder coated in-house at Maxxed Performance.
“The Jeep had overwhelmingly good responses from most people, although a few Jeep people considered it a waste,” he admits. “It wasn’t built for them, though.” The JK made its first appearance at the Last Resort Show in Jennings, LA and is currently making someone else happy, as Reid recently sold it to move on to his next build. “I think this build was a progression of the previous builds, and I’m always trying to move forward and push the envelope of what we do at the shop!”
